The weekly lesson is AI lessons.

Voice agents move to mobile, open Chinese models keep pushing the price floor, and edge speculative decoding shows up in real silicon.

OpenAI brings agentic ChatGPT Voice to mobile. Starting Sep 23, Plus and Pro users can trigger Work flows by voice on their phones, including docs, email drafts, Slack summaries, presentations, and a cloud browser, while Free and Go users get plugins and connected apps. Voice and text hand off across devices. GPT-Live shipped earlier for desktop; this is the mobile agentic expansion. Voice is becoming the control surface for agent work on the go, not just hands-free chat. TechCrunch

Meta brings Muse to its AI glasses at Connect. Muse is coming to Meta AI glasses. Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 ships now from $449, Ray-Ban Meta Audio preorders start at $349 (shipping Oct 13), more than 100 styles are planned by year-end, and hearing enhancement comes later in the US. Meta VR Glasses are targeted for next spring at about $1,300. Personal agents are moving from phone apps into always-on wearables, with distribution the story more than a new model. Meta

Moonshot ships Kimi K2.6 as an open-weight model. Released Sep 24, Kimi K2.6 is a native multimodal MoE with about 1T total and 32B active parameters, 256k context, and Thinking and Instant modes. Weights are on Hugging Face under a modified MIT license. Moonshot claims long-horizon coding across thousands of tool calls, agent swarms, and partner serving via Fireworks and Cloudflare Workers AI. Another open Chinese flagship targets coding and agent workloads, with vLLM and SGLang packaging from day one. The Once Times

Claude finds ART, a CRISPR-like enzyme system. Anthropic’s new biology lab ran about 950 agents using about 210M tokens over 21 hours, and Claude spotted repeat arrays next to a known reverse transcriptase in phage DNA. The system is named ART, its function is still unknown, and lab work is done by humans. Feng Zhang called the array find intriguing. It is a concrete example of agent-scale anomaly hunting in genomics, published early rather than as a finished tool. Anthropic

Liquid AI and Qualcomm bring personal context and speculative decoding to the edge. Liquid Context, tuned for the Snapdragon Hexagon NPU, keeps user context on device and feeds allowed slices to agents. A day later Liquid released a free draft model for LFM2.5-VL-3B (about 280M parameters, +8.9% size) claiming up to about 3.1x faster decode on M5 Max and about 2.7x on H100, though image and prompt encoding are unchanged, so end-to-end gains on edge devices shrink. Speculative decoding is moving from server research into edge product packaging. The Next Web

Xiaomi prices MiMo-V2.6-Pro far below closed frontier models. API pricing is about $0.435/$0.87 per million tokens, versus about $4/$20 cited for Opus 5.5 and GPT-5.6 Sol-class pricing. The model scores 46 on Artificial Analysis’s open-weight index, tied with Grok 4.7, and Xiaomi disclosed about $2.62M spent on the RL phase only. The question shifts from whether open models can match closed ones to whether closed models can defend a 5x to 10x price premium. Startup Fortune

Google releases Gemini 3.8 Flash TTS and Flash-Lite TTS. Released Sep 23, the two models cover creative and high-throughput speech generation, including voice replication with consent audio, rolling out in AI Studio, the Gemini API, and Vids. Voice products are expanding on the generation side while OpenAI pushes agentic voice use. Google
